My mission is to provide a safe space for young people to evaluate the story they’re currently living in and, by using words, photography, or art, create a new story for their future that empowers them to embrace their uniqueness, while resisting the pressure to conform.
StorySync for Teens uses the power of storytelling to empower middle and high school aged students to build their confidence, embrace self-expression, and increase their sense of self-worth through storytelling – in words, photography, and art.
Being a teenager isn’t easy! We’ve all been there and know what it’s like.
It's like being on a constant emotional rollercoaster. They're still figuring out who they are, which can lead to a lot of self-doubt and identity crises. They experience struggles like anxiety and depression, and if they have to deal with bullying or family issues, that only adds to the stress. Then there’s the isolation and feelings of not measuring up, inflated by social media and their attachment to their cell phones.
My mission is to provide a safe space for young people to evaluate the story they’re currently living in and, by using words, photography, or art, create a new story for their future that empowers them to embrace their uniqueness, while resisting the pressure to conform.

Storytelling is the most primal form of communication humans have. We’ve been doing this since our creation. Storytelling is a powerful tool to share secrets which relieve shame and build confidence and acceptance. Storytelling in groups forms powerful bonds of community which bring people out of isolation and into connection.
In a safe and nurturing environment, we encourage teens to share their personal experiences through various storytelling mediums such as writing, spoken word, digital media, and art. By giving voice to their struggles and triumphs, these teens learn to articulate their emotions, develop empathy, and find strength in their unique narratives. The program not only provides an outlet for self-expression but also fosters a sense of community and solidarity among peers who face similar challenges.
StorySync guides teens in exploring the elements of storytelling. As they progress, teens work on collaborative projects in various forms of artistic expression. We then compile the collection of stories art, which will be published in an anthology and showcased at community events. These projects serve as a powerful reminder that their voices matter and can inspire change, both within themselves and in the wider community.
The impact of StorySync extends beyond the individual participants. By sharing their stories publicly, these teens challenge the stigma associated with bullying and mental health, encouraging open dialogue and greater awareness within their schools and communities. Ultimately, StorySync aims to create a ripple effect, where the courage and creativity of these young storytellers inspire others to stand up against bullying and embrace their own self-worth.
